We started the month off with a visit to Adele, John and their 3 boys: William, Oliver & James.
They now live in a beautiful, small village near Market Harborough.
We had a fantastic weekend walking, talking and drinking. There was something wrong with my bike, though!
Oliver & James (the twins) were so funny and slightly crazy on their scooters!
Boys never change - still obsessed with farm machinery. (Especially when they're at the "What?" and "Why?" stage. I had no idea what the tractor was actually doing! - K)
Where as the girls are more interested in ponies!
Moving In Day - well, sort of.
Not that I have anything against pink, but we decided to paint this room.
It took four coats!
The house was originally bought by my Great Grandad and although things have been altered, the house still does not have central heating. We decided to put in a big stove to keep us warm this winter, as well as renovate this one in the other room.
One problem: as we stripped back the wallpaper, half the wall fell off with it! I guess the plastering has not been updated. (That, and a bit of damp! - K)
Finally knocked though the old fireplace Dad & Kenny get to sweeping the chimney.
(Chim-Chim-eny-Chim-Chim-eny-Chim-Chim-Cherow. Life as a chimney sweep is dusty, you know. We dislodged about 30 year's worth of birds' nests and two late residents of said nests. I say late, they may have been just resting, stunned, probably pining for the fjords... - K)
Stripped back and ready for a refurb.
A new hole ready for a new fire. Plus, check out the floorboards we found!
It is such an old house that a few of the door ways were not built for tall people such as Kenny, so we had to put in a new door to our bedroom.
Re-plastering the wall. (You'll notice that this wall looked entirely fine in previous photos. The job kept getting bigger and bigger, as more elderly plaster was unearthed! - K)
Even though there was still plenty to finish we decided to move in (we had been living with Mum & Dad until this point). We enlisted the professional assistance of my sister & brother-in-law, Kirsten & Dave. Oh and the quad bike to carry all our things from the container on the farm.
I think Dave was pretending to be Father Christmas? Dave?
(Does that make me a reindeer? I do have nose issues! - K)
Or maybe just getting ready for a quick nap?
We are far off being finished (it will take us years to complete) but at least we have a few rooms sorted enough to live in. The fire places are still not finished and the kitchen looks like - I am not sure what it looks like - and the dining room is full of boxes.
Our bedroom (see old door behind the bed).
We did so much in September that all is not in here. I have been working away a lot but we still managed to go up to Glasgow for Toadies birthday bar-b-que, plus I have been able to catch up with many of my friends especially Jane & Simon and Simone & Dave who very kindly put me up for a night!
